About Us

The Manetti family has a long history in Florence.

Over the centuries, many of the family members took a leading role in the public life of Florence, admitted to the honor of the judiciary since 1337.

Members of the family include priors, several Gonfalonieri of Justice, senators and even a saint (San Bonagiunta), as well as soldiers and literates (Giannozzo, a famous philosopher of the 15th century and Rutilio, painter of the 16th century).

In 1708 Giovanni di Giannozzo Manetti, Senator of Grand Duke Cosimo III, was appointed Commissioner of Pistoia and Prato, retaining this position until 1718. The family coat of arms, together with those of other dignitaries, adorns the Praetorian Palace in Pistoia, both in a fresco on a vaulted ceiling of the courtyard as well as on a stone sculpture outside.

The Manetti's family line in Pistoia dates back to Giovanni Manetti, who settled there, although already in 1446 a Giannozzo Bernardo Manetti is mentioned retaining the post of "prison captain" of the same city.

The founder of the winery Manetti was born many years later in 1864.

In 1893, Raimondo Manetti, returning from the colonial wars in Africa, decided to begin a wine trade. He petitioned the town council of Quarrata (then called Tizzana) and was subsequently granted its first official trading licence.

Between the end of the 19th Century and early 20th Century, this small family business grew and developed, gaining many loyal customers over the years. The outbreak of the First World War (1915 - 1918) slowed the development somewhat, but after the war, Serafino, son of Raimondo, with the assistance of his brother Mario, again led the company to success. With honesty and hard work, the business has since flourished.

Over the years, our family-now in its fourth generation in the industry-has maintained its traditions, offering a wide range of products meeting the highest standards of taste, quality and purity.

Employing modern technology, together with the passion and attention typical of a family-run business, we infuse all our products with our love for things well done. We offer our Chianti DOCG, Chianti Montalbano DOCG Riserva, Rosso and Bianco Toscano IGT, Chardonnay di Toscana IGT and Vin Santo del Chianti DOC Riserva.
